The Pleasures of Friendly Criticism is a selection from the 1779 play, The Critic by Richard Brinsley Sheridan. We are all critics but being criticized can sometimes be tough to handle. Like the modern Muppet characters Statler and Waldorf, the two critics of this short selection, Mr. Dangle and Mr. Sneer, find themselves commenting on a play written by Sir Fretful Plagiary, a talentless playwright who, as described by Dangle and Sneer, requests honest criticism yet rejects any unflattering observations. This brief comedy is a laughable hodgepodge of bombastic language and ludicrous critique. Our bookend commercials include Beeyessma and Creamy Sponge Cakes.
